Lauterbach warns of a massive increase in own shares in care

Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) fears a massive increase in personal contributions for care if funding is not fundamentally reformed. 'If we do nothing, we could end up with 4,000 euros in personal contributions per month in a few years,' he told the Funke Media Group's Thursday newspapers.

Many seniors already have anxiety about having to go into a nursing home because the out-of-pocket costs currently range between 2600 Euro and 3300 Euro per month, Lauterbach said. It's unacceptable that people in retirement age have to worry if they have enough money for care.

"This is undignified," the SPD politician said. However, it's not possible to maintain the current level of care without increasing funding, Lauterbach warned. After the summer break, he will present a proposal on this matter.

The SPD politician also mentioned, "The following is added: an additional 300 Euro per month for nursing home residents to help alleviate their financial burden." It's crucial to address the rising concerns about affordability in long-term care for seniors.
