Last generation - Last generation demonstrates against LNG terminal
Climate activists from the Last Generation have called for a demonstration near the Rügen Terminal for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) on Saturday afternoon (13:00). It is scheduled to start in Sassnitz. According to a spokesperson, the police expect around 200 participants. "On Rügen, an LNG terminal is being built, despite the population's objections and the resulting massive environmental damage," wrote the Last Generation in their call-to-action, which was disseminated via the short message service X (formerly Twitter). On Sunday and Monday, further actions are reportedly planned - for example, a reading and a discussion round.
The Federal Government defends the Rügen Terminal by referring to supply security. In light of the Russian attack on Ukraine, it has accelerated the expansion of its own LNG import infrastructure to become less dependent on Russian gas.
