Last generation blocks Puschkinallee
The Last Generation once again blocked a main traffic artery in Berlin on Monday. There was an action on Puschkinallee in Treptow, a police spokesman said on Monday morning. Officers were already on site. According to the spokesperson, it was initially unclear how many activists were involved in the blockade. A press release from Last Generation states that the protests have been going on for seven weeks. The group's actions are an attempt to protest for more climate protection.
The environmental protection organization Greenpeace also staged a protest on Monday morning. According to their own statements, activists rolled out several banners on the unused A100 construction site. They demanded "Germany ticket instead of 1 kilometer of freeway", demonstrating against the controversial planned extension of the city freeway through the eastern part of Berlin. The action did not affect ongoing traffic.
The blockade on Puschkinallee caused significant traffic disruptions, making commuting a challenge for many residents and visitors. Despite the ongoing demonstrations, Greenpeace chose a different location for their protest, staging it on the unused A100 construction site.
