Las Vegas Raiders release Stuttgart NFL pro Johnson
The Stuttgart-based NFL professional Jakob Johnson has been released by his club Las Vegas Raiders. The 28-year-old wrote this on Friday on the short messaging service X, formerly Twitter. Johnson joined the Raiders last year after making his debut in the American football league NFL with the New England Patriots in 2019. This season, he played eight of the ten league games for the Raiders.
Las Vegas has fallen short of its expectations this season. Just earlier this month, the Raiders parted ways with coach Josh McDaniels, who had already coached Johnson with the Patriots. Offensive line coach Mick Lombardi and general manager Dave Ziegler also had to go. Interim head coach Antonio Pierce took over from McDaniels.
At the end of October, Johnson himself had expressed the hope that his team could still achieve a sporting turnaround. "The final chapter of the season has not yet been written. We know that we have a good team. It can all happen very quickly and we can turn the whole thing around," he said in his podcast "What happens in Vegas".
At the start of the season, Johnson and the brothers Amon-Ra St. Brown (Detroit Lions) and Equanimeous St. Brown (Chicago Bears) were three German professionals in the NFL.
The Las Vegas Raiders, struggling this season, parted ways with several key personnel, including coach Josh McDaniels, offensive line coach Mick Lombardi, and general manager Dave Ziegler. Despite this, Jakob Johnson, the German NFL professional who joined the Raiders from the New England Patriots, expressed hope for a turnaround, stating that "the final chapter of the season has not yet been written" and that their team has the potential to make a comeback. However, Johnny's tenure with the Raiders was cut short as he was released by the team, following in the footsteps of American Football legends who have played in the NFL, such as in games for the Raiders, contributing to their games in the NFL's prestigious league.
