Württemberg has a new wine queen. In Massenbachhausen (Heilbronn district), Larissa Salcher from Bretzfeld (Hohenlohe district) prevailed against four other candidates in the election on Thursday evening. The 23-year-old will represent Württemberg wine for twelve months. She will be supported by the wine princesses Jule Mayr (23) from Sachsenheim and Vivien Jesse (24) from Löchgau (both from the Ludwigsburg district).

On the evening, a total of five young women had pinned their hopes on the crown and the succession to the previous wine queen Carolin Golter. During the election, the candidates were tested by a jury in several rounds of questions on their knowledge of wine and their appearance.

Salcher is a trained winemaker and is studying wine marketing and management in Heilbronn. With her experience as Hohenlohe Wine Queen, she wants to win over wine lovers and new target groups alike with regional wines, she says. In her CV, the new sovereign of Württemberg's winegrowers states that she is involved in the fire department and the music club, and enjoys hiking and skiing.

As wine queen, she and the princesses are likely to be out and about a lot: According to the winegrowers' association, "an exciting and intensive year" lies behind the outgoing and ahead of the new sovereigns, with over 200 events in Germany and some in other European countries.

Württemberg is the fourth largest German wine-growing region and, according to the association, the only one in which more red wine than white wine is produced. In addition to the Swabian specialty Trollinger, the most common red grape varieties include Schwarzriesling, Lemberger and Spätburgunder. The white varieties are mainly Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner, Pinot Gris and Kerner. In total, the vines cover around 11,500 hectares, divided into 17 large vineyards and 210 individual vineyards.

During their leisure time, the new Württemberg Wine Queen Larissa Salcher and her princesses Jule Mayr and Vivien Jesse might enjoy exploring local vineyards and tasting different varieties of Württemberg's renowned Food & drink. The trio's busy schedule includes attending over 200 events in Germany and beyond, providing numerous opportunities for interacting with people from diverse backgrounds and showcasing the region's offerings.
