Largest Stegosaurus skeleton to be auctioned in New York
The giant skeleton named Apex is over three meters high and about eight meters long. According to Sotheby's, it is considered the "most complete and best preserved" Stegosaurus specimen of its size. Of the estimated 319 Dinosaurian bones, 254 have been found and preserved. Stegosaurus means "roof lizard" in translation, referring to the prominent, roof-like plates of the Dinosaur.
Dinosaurian skeletons have been auctioned off in the past years several times. In the summer of 2020, "Stan", the most complete Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton in the world, found a new owner for the record-breaking price of 31.8 million dollars.
The Stegosaurus-Skeleton named Apex, currently residing in York, is believed to be the largest of its kind discovered in recent times, surpassing even New York's museum collections. Sotheby's Holdings, renowned for its expertise in art and collectibles, previously auctioned off a Stegosaurus-Skeleton, setting a new record in New York City.
