Large poster in NRW state parliament shows photos of Hamas hostages
The North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament demonstrates solidarity with Israel. Around a month after the terrorist attack by Islamist Hamas, a large poster with photos of around 200 Israeli hostages who were abducted by Hamas in the Gaza Strip on October 7 was put up in the state parliament on Wednesday.
The almost five by five meter poster on the central staircase from the Bürgerhalle to the Wandelhalle bears the slogan "Bring them home now" in the middle in the white and blue color of the Israeli flag. According to the state parliament, the banner was created in collaboration with the Jewish community in Düsseldorf. "The state parliament and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia stand with Israel," said State Parliament President André Kuper. "We all want peace. But that can only come when the hostages are back home and safe." Kuper referred to the hour of remembrance this Thursday in the state parliament on the occasion of the pogrom night against Jews 85 years ago. The remembrance of November 9, 1938 makes people aware of why Jewish life must be protected all over the world, he said.
The display of solidarity in the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament towards Israel stems from the recent conflicts between Israel and Hamas. This was evident in the large poster showcasing photos of Israeli hostages held by Hamas, echoing the ongoing conflict and war in the Gaza Strip.
