- Large police operation in the Baltic Sea
After receiving a tip, there was a significant police operation on the Baltic Sea and in the Schleswig-Holstein town of Grömitz. In the morning, the police in Rostock reported that there was allegedly an explosive device on a sailing boat on the Baltic Sea, which was en route from Kühlungsborn to the Lübeck Bay. The police stopped the boat for an inspection. However, the tip was not confirmed.
The owners of the boat cooperated, according to the police spokesperson. After the inspection, the authorities quickly ruled out any danger. Earlier, the "Lübecker Nachrichten" had reported this.
Special forces were deployed
As a precaution, the police initiated all necessary measures on the water and on land, as a danger situation could not initially be ruled out. Special forces were also called in, the police spokesperson said. Police officers were also present in the yacht harbor of Grömitz. Units from the State Water Police Office and the State Criminal Police Office of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, as well as the Federal Police and the State Police of Schleswig-Holstein were involved in the operation.
The special forces were called in to aid the police due to the initial uncertainty about the situation. Despite the extensive police operation, the tip about the explosive device turned out to be unfounded.
