A major fire in an industrial complex in Ratingen has caused a smoke column visible for kilometers. Despite the fire being near the approach path of Düsseldorf Airport, it had no impact on air traffic, a spokesperson said, partly due to favorable wind conditions.

The fire also set several cars ablaze. No injuries were reported initially by police and firefighters. The cause of the fire was initially unknown. Firefighters were on the scene for several hours.

Many onlookers gathered on a nearby bridge to watch the events unfold, a police spokesperson reported. The bridge was closed initially as it was unclear if hazardous materials were released. The complex houses various businesses, including an auto repair shop.

The blaze engulfed several cars, turning them into charred wrecks. Despite the intense heat and smoke, the fire did not spread to any nearby buildings.
