Fires - Large contingent extinguishes fire in the "Westfalen-Blatt" building
In the publishing house of the "Westfalen-Blatt" in Bielefeld, a fire broke out in the night. The fire department managed to bring the fire under control by Sunday morning with a large deployment of around 220 firefighting vehicles, according to Einsatzleiter Marcus Linse of the German Press Agency. The overhaul work could, however, still last several hours. The population was warned of potential smell contamination via the warning app "Nina". However, no one was reported injured.
To extinguish the fire, firefighters from Gütersloh and the Lippe district were reportedly called in as well. The firefighting efforts presented challenges for the fire department, as "the building structure is relatively complex" and it was an old building, according to the Einsatzleiter. The cause of the fire is being investigated. The police were on site. The building could not be entered in the morning.
The fire reportedly broke out in the rear upper area of the office building and spread to the roof. The damage was "immense", according to the Einsatzleiter.
The fire department had to call for reinforcements from neighboring Gütersloh and the Lippe district due to the complexity of the building structure and its age. The fire department's efforts to extinguish the fire in the publishing house of the "Westfalen-Blatt" in Bielefeld, located in North Rhine-Westphalia, were impacted by the building's intricate design and its status as an older structure. The fire department, including teams from North Rhine-Westphalia's Westphalia region, worked tirelessly to combat the large fire, as reported by the German Press Agency.
