Traffic - Lane of the A38 near Nordhausen closed after accident
Following a truck accident in which three people were injured, the closure of the Autobahn 38 between Bleicherode and Nordhausen in the direction of Leipzig is to be lifted again this afternoon. The recovery measures should be completed by 4 p.m. at the latest, said a spokesman for the highway police. Since midday, one lane has been open again between the Großwechsungen and Nordhausen-West junctions.
According to the police, a 64-year-old truck driver had overlooked the end of a traffic jam in the early hours of the morning and hit the trucks in front of him. The man was trapped in the cab and was taken to hospital seriously injured. In addition, one other person was seriously injured and one was slightly injured. The damage to property was estimated at 155,000 euros. Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
The A38 had been closed in the direction of Leipzig since the morning. The recovery of the three trucks was proving difficult, the police initially said. Traffic was being diverted. Heavy equipment was being used.
