Crime - Landlord couple allegedly killed 55-year-old woman

Two landlords of a house in Lauterbach (Vogelsbergkreis) are suspected of killing a 55-year-old woman. The body of the woman was found at the property of the couple on a Wednesday, as police and prosecutors announced. The 58-year-old man and his 43-year-old live-in partner were therefore arrested. They deny the accusation, according to the statement. The two suspects are expected to be presented to the judge on Thursday afternoon.

A police patrol had already been called to a dispute between the landlords and a former tenant on Sunday evening, as it was reported. This man told the police that a mentally disabled woman had been living in the house until the beginning of the year. There had been physical assaults against her. Suddenly, the 55-year-old woman had disappeared. The investigators then interviewed witnesses and searched the house on Wednesday. A special operations team was also involved.

The investigators found extensive evidence at the scene, according to police and prosecutors. The body of the woman was taken to the Institute for Legal Medicine in Gießen. The cause of death and background of the crime were initially not disclosed by police and prosecutors - according to the statement for tactical investigation reasons.

The suspects have been identified as a married couple, according to the latest police statement. They are currently in custody and are being questioned. The investigation is ongoing.

The 55-year-old woman's disappearance was linked to the Lauterbach couple, residing in the Vogelsberg district, who are under investigation by the public prosecutor's office. The couple, including a 58-year-old man and his 43-year-old live-in partner, had a history of disputes, including physical assaults against a mentally disabled woman who used to live in their house. Hesse's police are continuing to investigate the crime at the couple's property.
