Metrological conditions - Lake Constance flood conditions may improve slightly.
Experts predict that Lake Constance is going to have a minor drop in water level over the next few days. The High Water Forecasting Center Baden-Württemberg is forecasting this decrease. The water level in Konstanz could potentially go below the 5-meter mark by Thursday, which was almost reached at 5.10 meters.
There have been instances of Lake Constance overflowing in the past few days. In the Swiss community of Gottlieben, near Kreuzlingen in the canton of Thurgau, the lake road was flooded and water entered some buildings, as per a statement. Preventative measures were taken in Konstanz by closing shore paths.
The fire department, in collaboration with the Technical Relief Organization (THW), secured the Hafenstraße up to the Konstanz Council. Sandbag walls and flood protection walls were put in place to protect the shipyard buildings of the shipping companies.
Mainau Island prepared for the possible consequences by laying out sandbags to secure their entrance bridge, as mentioned by a spokesperson. The current water level at Lake Constance is at its peak, and it's expected to stay that way for at least a few more weeks, warned the fire department.
In Bregenz, Austria, flood barriers and wave breakers were submitted. Romanshorn in Switzerland has reported a high water level, but it's not currently posing a significant issue, explained a spokesman. "So far, no actions have been necessary concerning the water level."
The German Weather Service does not expect much more substantial rainfall at Lake Constance until the weekend. According to a DWD meteorologist, there may be only a few raindrops. The dry spell should continue until Friday, with only light rain expected afterwards. Temperatures are predicted to reach 20 degrees by Friday.
The heavy rain of the previous days has led to an increase in water level for Lake Constance. The car ferry Konstanz-Meersburg was forced to take in containers as ballast to sink deeper into the water, according to a spokesman for the Konstanz City Utilities. The loaded containers have already accumulated in the Konstanz harbor.
