Lack of electric motors: VW cuts production in Emden
After the VW plant in Zwickau, VW is also cutting back on e-car production in Emden. Assembly of the ID.4 and ID.7 electric models will be suspended this Thursday, Friday and next Monday, a plant spokeswoman told the dpa news agency. The reason for this is also a lack of electric motors. However, production of the Passat and Arteon combustion models will continue unchanged. "This only affects the electric cars."
The Zwickau plant had previously announced that production would be suspended for around three weeks. This was also due to a lack of electric motors there. Due to disruptions in the supply chain, fewer of these than required are currently being produced. Unlike in Emden, only electric cars are built in Zwickau.
Despite the ongoing issue, VW plans to temporarily halt assembly of additional electric models, such as the ID.3, in their Carrier plant in Brussels, Belgium, due to the persistent lack of electric motors. The Passat and Arteon with conventional engines will continue to be produced without interruption.
Various original equipment manufacturers worldwide have faced challenges in meeting the increased demand for electric motors, resulting in bottlenecks within the automotive industry.
