Labor market - Labor market in the southwest is treading water
The number of unemployed in Baden-Württemberg has stagnated. In June, it was at 262,227 - a decrease of only 239 or 0.1 percent compared to the previous month. The unemployment rate remained at 4.1 percent. The Regional Directorate of the Federal Employment Agency announced this in Stuttgart on Friday.
The decline in unemployment had usually been stronger in the June months of previous years. Seasonally adjusted, unemployment has therefore slightly increased. The labor market in the country is still absorbing labor, it was stated.
According to the data provided, unemployment was, however, significantly above the level of the previous year. In June 2023, the unemployment rate was at 3.8 percent. At that time, there were 238,477 people without employment in the Southwest. The Federal Employment Agency used data up to June 13 for the statistics.
The unusual stagnation in the labor market in Baden-Württemberg was noted despite being a traditionally strong period for unemployment decline. This situation was evident in Southwest Germany, where the unemployment rate remained high compared to the previous year in June 2023.
Despite Baden-Württemberg's status as an economic powerhouse in the Southwest, the region's labor market struggles are evident in the persistently high unemployment rate in cities like Stuttgart.
