Recognition for Humor Artists - Kurt Krömer is honored with an accolade for his dedication towards recognizing depression's presence.
"Comedian Kurt Krömer has been on a mission to shed light on mental health issues for quite some time now, openly discussing his own struggles in his show 'Chez Krömer' and writing a book about his experiences with depression," mentioned Teresa Enke from the Robert Enke Foundation. The foundation, established in honor of her late husband, former German national goalkeeper Robert Enke, who took his own life in late 2009 due to depression, praised Krömer for his efforts.
Krömer: "There's a growing sense of understanding"
Teresa Enke highlighted that Krömer's journey serves as a beacon of hope for those battling mental illnesses and their families, "offering proof that there's light at the end of the tunnel, and it's worth holding onto life."
The entertainer, actor, and author shared that fighting against the stigma surrounding depression is a cause close to his heart. "Thanks to the relentless efforts of many, society's understanding and empathy are gradually increasing, albeit not at the pace they should be," said Krömer.
The Robert Enke Foundation is set to announce the name of the second prize recipient in the 'Social Aid' category on Saturday. This award, too, carries a 15,000 Euro prize. The Mental Health Awareness Award is primarily funded by VGH Insurance, Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine, and AOK Lower Saxony, as per the foundation.
Three-day event in Hannover
August 24th would have been Robert Enke's 47th birthday. To honor his memory, the foundation is hosting Mental Health Days from the 20th to the 22nd in the Herrenhäuser Gardens, featuring an exhibition and a panel discussion. The award ceremony is not open to the general public.
Krömer's open discussions about his struggles with depression have helped reduce the stigma surrounding the disease. The foundation commends him for providing a glimmer of hope to individuals and families affected by mental illnesses.
