Kühnert on SPD in government: "Have become too satisfied"
SPD General Secretary Kevin Kühnert sees criticism from the Jusos of the SPD's role in the traffic light coalition as partly justified. "You are also right in some places," said Kühnert on Saturday at the SPD youth congress in Braunschweig. "That we have become too content in this coalition and too often hide behind arguments."
Social democracy needs a bit more "bumblebees in the ass". "I hope that you can contribute to this and ask you to support this impulse," Kühnert said to the Jusos.
Previously, the SPD youngsters had sharply criticized Chancellor Olaf Scholz in particular. The people to whom the SPD had promised more respect during the election campaign were turning away from the party, said Juso leader Philipp Türmer. It appalled him "how little this chancellor is doing for those who deserve his respect so much".
The Jusos have raised valid concerns about the SPD's complacency in the government, as acknowledged by SPD General Secretary Kevin Kühnert. This complacency, as Kühnert acknowledged at the SPD youth congress, has led to the party hiding behind arguments too often and becoming too satisfied in the coalition.
