Kühnert criticizes FDP: The SPD's tolerance towards the traffic light coalition is dwindling
"Our alliance buddy is still keeping the federal government's retirement plan on hold," said Kühnert during a meeting with our party leaders to evaluate the election outcomes. "I believe I can speak for numerous SPD members when I say: Our patience is nearing its end." The FDP has been pushing back against the so-called Rentenpaket II for quite some time now due to increasing contributions, which aim to maintain a pension level of 48% in the near future.
Regarding the disappointing results of the SPD and other coalition parties in the regional elections, Kühnert commented: "There's a substantial group of people who have lost faith in the problem-solving skills of traditional politics." Furthermore, SPD campaigners reported: "The wind of federal politics was definitely against us. Other parties ensured that federal politics dominated the discussion." Kühnert referred to the debate about war and peace as an illustration. This debate was given top priority in the state election agendas by the Left Party alliance headed by Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW).
Despite the FDP's continuous opposition against Rentenpaket II due to rising contributions, the FDP's stance on the federal government's retirement plan remains crucial for the implementation of the proposed pension level improvements. It's worth noting that Kühnert, the SPD leader, has expressed concern regarding the FDP's position.
