KSC sporting director Freis: "challenging situation"

New sporting director Sebastian Freis is not worried about the possibility of Karlsruher SC being relegated to the 3rd soccer league. "I'm not concerned with that scenario because I have great confidence in the team," the 38-year-old former Bundesliga professional told the German Press Agency. "Nevertheless, after so many match days, it's not as if the table gives a distorted picture. From that point of view, we have to be realistic about the fact that it is a very challenging situation."

After 13 matchdays, Baden are 15th in the Bundesliga 2 table, having started the new season with euphoria, partly due to the return of former international Lars Stindl. "We don't need to panic," said Freis, but also demanded: "We should pick up a few more points before Christmas. We've made the team aware of how important the next few weeks are in order to have as peaceful a Christmas as possible."

Freis became head of the professional squad at KSC at the end of August and has set himself the long-term goal of returning to the Bundesliga with the team from North Baden. The club is currently level on points with FC Schalke 04 in the relegation zone ahead of Sunday's home game (1.30pm/Sky) against 1. FC Nürnberg with just 13 points.

Nevertheless, the position of coach Christian Eichner is not an issue for Freis. "He's not up for debate," confirmed Freis: "He's doing exactly the right thing. He remains true to his line. The exchange is extremely good." Basically, he is "very positive" about the coming weeks. Until Christmas, KSC still have home games against Nuremberg (26.11.), Hansa Rostock (3.12.) and SV Elversberg (17.12.) and away at Hannover 96 (8.12.).

Freis acknowledged the challenging situation for Karlsruher SC, as they currently sit 15th in the Bundesliga 2 table with only 13 points, placing them level with FC Schalke 04 in the relegation zone. Despite this, he expressed confidence in the team and emphasized the importance of picking up more points before the holiday season to ensure a peaceful Christmas.

In the midst of this, Freis referred to Karlsruhe SC's upcoming fixture against 1. FC Nürnberg in the Bundesliga 2, set to take place at home on Sunday at 1:30 pm, broadcasted on Sky. This game offers KSC an opportunity to improve their position in the table and move closer to escaping the relegation zone, as they play against other teams in similar situations such as Hansa Rostock, SV Elversberg, and Hannover 96 before the end of the year.
