Eleven exercises and a group of four - Kretschmer welcomes newest godchildren.

Despite the ongoing political struggles, Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU) found joy this weekend as he met with his youngest godchildren and their families. The appointment was held at the amusement park Oskarshausen for their regular triplet get-together, organized by the Dresden State Chancellery. A spokesperson revealed that a total of 460 people had signed up.

Kretschmer is welcoming 11 new trios this time around, including a rare quartet - Eddi, Rudi, Christian, and Luca, who was born just recently. This brings the number of triplets and quadruplets he has cared for to 272 in total, including the famous one-eyed Leipzig quartet. The oldest triplet was born in 1988 while the youngest arrived in November of the preceding year. The honorary godparenthood of the head of government of triplets under the age of 14 was initiated by Saxony in 1995 - making it the first federal state to do so. This position comes with a one-time payment of 1,200 euros for each multiple child, a gesture that acknowledges the special challenges and educational effort it takes. Kretschmer has been looking after his predecessor's godchildren automatically and has been hosting the triplet meetings every two years since 2000.
