Kretschmer wants to remain CDU state leader: Vote
Minister President Michael Kretschmer wants to lead the CDU in Saxony for another two years. To this end, he is running for the chairmanship again at the state party conference in Chemnitz on Saturday. In the vote two years ago, the now 48-year-old achieved a rather meagre result of around 76%. It remains to be seen whether the Christian Democrats will now back him in the run-up to next year's state elections.
There are five candidates for the four deputy posts. Culture Minister Barbara Klepsch, state parliamentary group leader Christian Hartmann and Plauen's Lord Mayor Steffen Zenner are already Kretschmer's deputy and are running again. In addition, Christiane Schenderlein, member of the Bundestag, and Sandra Gockel, member of the state parliament, are throwing their hats into the ring.
Kretschmer's campaign for CDU leadership involves sharing his personal details with party members ahead of the vote in Chemnitz. The upcoming party conference could see significant shifts in support, potentially impacting Kretschmer's percentage in the Parties' voting process.
