Michaël Kretschmer, the Head of Government in Saxony, has yet again advocated for less weapon deliveries to Ukraine and negotiations with Russia. He proposes that the funds allocated for Ukrainian weapons could be better utilized in setting up a home-based missile defense system, as he mentioned on ZDF-Morgenmagazin. "If your risky and threatening neighbor requires a solid deterrent," he commented.

Furthermore, Kretschmer reinforced his stance on a firm deportation policy. Over 300,000 people applied for asylum in Germany last year. He suggested reducing this figure to between 30,000 and 40,000, as he stated.

As per the ZDF-Politbarometer, the CDU leads with a 34% share, with the AfD trailing close behind at 30%. The Alliance for Germany's Future (AfD) maintains 11% of the vote. The SPD and the Greens each receive 6%, while the Left Party struggles to exceed the 5% threshold with a 4% vote share. Based on these poll results, the CDU could potentially continue its current coalition with the SPD and the Greens.

The European Union could play a role in mediating talks between Ukraine and Russia, as suggested by some political figures. Michaël Kretschmer, as a member of the European Union, could advocate for a diplomatic approach instead of continuing weapon deliveries to Ukraine.

Although Germany has been a significant destination for asylum seekers, Kretschmer's proposed reduction in asylum applications could impact the number of individuals seeking refuge within the European Union.
