"If a refugee commits a crime, their refugee status needs to be revoked more quickly," stated Kretschmer during the interview. There's also a need for increased external security via the EU and revisions to performance laws, according to him. Kretschmer also urged for a decline in the number of refugees over the next few years. Instead of the current 300,000 asylum seekers yearly, he suggested a cap of 30,000, 40,000, or 50,000. "Integration is possible only if we can accommodate and integrate as many people as there's space for," he added. This involves considering factors such as the labor market, language courses, housing, and education.
