In Meckenbeuren, about 1,300 residents were instructed to evacuate their homes in the wee hours of a Saturday morning. The situation remains precarious, as the local government stated on Sunday. There's still a possibility of water levels rising even more come Monday.

Recent heavy rainfall has caused several streams and rivers, particularly those in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, to fill up rapidly. Entire communities were submerged, even after dams got breached. One firefighter perished in Bavaria while attempting a rescue in the flood waters, while another is currently unaccounted for.
