Reunion - Kovac praises Tuchel: "Currently the best German coach"

Former Bayern coach Niko Kovac has a high opinion of current Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel. "A great coach," said Kovac ahead of the head-to-head clash between VfL Wolfsburg and FC Bayern Munich on Wednesday evening in the Bundesliga (20:30/Sky). Tuchel is "a coach who - no matter where he has been - has been very successful. For me, he is currently the best German coach," said Kovac, adding just one small caveat: "In Germany - we have another one in England."

Kovac won the German championship and the DFB Cup with FC Bayern in 2019 and had to leave just six months later. Nevertheless, the VfL coach is looking forward to a reunion with his former club ahead of the last game of the year: "There are still a few people in Munich who I had the pleasure of meeting as a player. If I were to list them all, it would be too much. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone I know."

In sporting terms, he calls his Wolfsburg team "the clear outsiders. We will have to struggle to stand up to Bayern," said Kovac. "But we're all sportsmen and we're all footballers: we still believe in the remaining chance, which is always there. That's not many percentage points. But it's a few percentage points that we're trying to get on our side."
