Wolfsburg's Vaclav Cerny celebrates after scoring a goal.

Kovac on purchasing Cerny: "He will definitely come"

VfL Wolfsburg coach Niko Kovac is hoping for more goals from eight-million-euro transfer Vaclav Cerny ahead of the Bundesliga North clash with Werder Bremen. The 26-year-old attacker from the Czech Republic arrived from Dutch club FC Twente Enschede before the season with great expectations. However, he only scored for his new club for the first time last Tuesday in a 1-0 win against RB Leipzig in the DFB Cup.

"Vaclav is a boy who works very hard and is a total professional. He was annoyed himself that he hadn't scored the way he did on Tuesday. But he's a player who will definitely come on," said Kovac on Friday at the press conference for the Bremen game (Sunday, 3.30 pm/DAZN).

Cerny has "technical ability, he has speed, he has a really good left foot", the Wolfsburg coach listed. "We still need to work a bit on the defensive link-up. But I'm happy with his development. You can't expect to come here from the Netherlands and then immediately play everything into the ground. That takes time. We'll give him that time. I hope he shows what he's made of in the next few games as well. Because he has a lot of potential."

Kovac mentioned that VfL Wolfsburg's new signing, Vaclav Cerny, had scored his first goal for the club in a DFB Cup match against RB Leipzig, demonstrating his technical ability and speed. In the upcoming Bundesliga North clash against Werder Bremen, Kovac is eager for Cerny, who plays for Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg, to continue to contribute and show his potential.
