German Cup - Kompany makes his debut for Bayern Munich in Ulm

FC Bayern, title holders, will kick off their DFB-Pokal journey in the hometown of their honorary president Uli Hoeneß. They will square off against SSV Ulm from the second division, who have recently earned promotion. This will mark Vincent Kompany's first official game as Bayern's coach.

Bayern has already faced Ulm a couple of times in the Bundesliga, and both encounters ended in victory for the record cup winners during the 99/00 season. In the previous season, Ulm finished as champions of the 3. Liga and got promptly promoted.

The first round of the DFB-Pokal is set to take place between August 16-19; the precise dates haven't been revealed yet. During the draw held at the German Football Museum in Dortmund, former player Nils Petersen picked Viktoria Berlin as the opponent for FC Augsburg.

Meanwhile, 1. FC Nuernberg faces a tough challenge in their first round as they will travel to battle 1. FC Saarbrucken, a third division team they eliminated in the previous season but was only stopped in the semifinals. Olaf Rebbe, Sporting director, acknowledged the difficulty of the situation: "We face a real challenge in the first round. The team has powerfully demonstrated their potential in this competition".

  1. FC Nurnberg's local rival SpVgg Greuther Furth will be up against TSV Schott Mainz. Jahn Regensburg, a second-division promotion club, hosts VfL Bochum. Last year's finalists 1. FC Kaiserslautern visit FC Ingolstadt.

The matches involving Supercup contenders Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Vfb Stuttgart are scheduled for August 27th and 28th.
