Kohler criticized: Bayern lack self-confidence
Jürgen Kohler sees the record champions under pressure ahead of the clash between his former clubs Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern Munich on Saturday (18:30/Sky). "There is room for improvement. And it doesn't feel any better when you've already lost a title," said Kohler in an interview with the "Mediengruppe Münchner Merkut/tz" (Saturday edition). After the surprising cup exit in Saarbrücken, Thomas Tuchel's team is now "under enormous pressure - because Bayern only have two titles left to win. It can be dangerous."
At the same time, the former central defender, who won the German soccer championship twice with BVB and once with Bayern, criticized the style of play and attitude of the Bayern professionals in the cup exit: "The season is still young, the squad is thin - but I would have liked to have seen a reaction in a game like that. Even with a team that isn't the full squad."
Although the game at BVB is not yet a test in the championship battle, "of course, victories always have an impact on self-confidence". However, Bayern would lack the belief in their own strength and in their own team. A failure on Tuchel's part? "That raises the question of cause and effect. It wasn't any better under Julian Nagelsmann. I prefer to remember Pep Guardiola, Jupp Heynckes and Louis van Gaal. I saw something under these coaches that I miss today," said Kohler.
The upcoming Bundesliga match between Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern Munich holds significant pressure for Bayern, as Jürgen Kohler noted, as they only have two titles left to win. Kohler, a former Bayern and Borussia Dortmund player, was critical of Bayern's performance in their cup exit, suggesting that they lacked a reaction and self-confidence, even with a thin squad.
