- Knowing the traffic light: "Everyone can be successful"
The success of the Rhineland-Palatinate traffic light government is also explained by the respectful and appreciative way the parties treat each other, even in difficult situations, according to FDP politician Volker Wissing. "We have managed to engage together for the land - instead of against something," Wissing said in an interview with the German Press Agency in Mainz.
The partners have learned not to attack each other in difficult questions, Wissing said. "Only all can be successful if everyone is aware that they need each other."
Wissing sees stable relations under Schweitzer
Wissing is the FDP state chairman in Rhineland-Palatinate and was the economic, transport and agricultural minister in the first traffic light government of Malu Dreyer (SPD). In Mainz, it has been possible to give the coalition partner a success once in a while; then the success of one follows that of the other. "That's still a bit difficult in Berlin."
The traffic light government is doing Rhineland-Palatinate very well, Wissing said. "The relations are stable," he said, also with regard to the recent change of government from Dreyer to Alexander Schweitzer (both SPD). "This is a coalition that has a vision for the land and stamina." This is not easy in Rhineland-Palatinate, which has long been a net recipient in the financial equalization and has had major financial problems.
Wissing praised the development in biotechnology and the new AI center in Kaiserslautern. This fits the pharmaceutical and chemical location of Rhineland-Palatinate. Intelligent industrial area development, which has made it possible for Eli Lilly in Alzey, also belongs to this.
The partners in the Rhineland-Palatinate traffic light government, including Wissing and Schweitzer, maintain a respectful and cooperative approach, even during challenging situations. Wissing commends that the partners have learned to work together for the benefit of Rhineland-Palatinate, rather than against each other.
