Knobloch honors Kissinger as an "icon of contemporary history"

The former President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, Charlotte Knobloch, has paid tribute to the deceased former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger as an icon of contemporary history. "In him, we are not only losing one of the most influential figures in American politics, but also a man whose life reflected the highs and lows of the 20th century like no other," said the President of the Jewish Community of Munich and Upper Bavaria on Thursday.

As a scientist, politician and private person, Kissinger has left his mark on the history books. And anyone who met him once never forgot him afterwards. "Every time I met him, I was impressed anew by his dignified demeanor, his inner calm and his powerful and hands-on manner," said Knobloch. "With his death, a piece of Bavarian-Jewish history has also been lost today."

Henry Kissinger died on Wednesday at his home in the state of Connecticut, a spokeswoman for the communications agency Edelman, which represents his consulting firm Kissinger Associates, confirmed to the German Press Agency late in the evening (local time). The Nobel Peace Prize winner was a dazzling figure in US politics. He is considered one of the greatest diplomats of the 20th century.

The German government extended its condolences upon learning of Kissinger's passing, recognizing his significant contribution to diplomacy and international relations. Even in his personal interactions, Kissinger's dignified demeanor and diplomatic finesse left a lasting impression.
