Verdict - Knife attack on sleeping ex-partner: life imprisonment
After a knife attack on his sleeping ex-partner, a man from Bochum was sentenced to life imprisonment for attempted murder on Tuesday. The 26-year-old man stabbed the 24-year-old woman 20 to 30 times in the head, legs and body on April 26 of this year, according to the Bochum jury court. Two blade tips broke off during the attack and got stuck in the victim's body. According to the verdict, the crime was motivated by relationship problems.
The 24-year-old's spleen, liver and lungs were hit in the attack. The woman had to be resuscitated twice in hospital. The fact that she survived the attack was described as a "medical miracle" during the trial. "The woman had two guardian angels," said Judge Josef Große Feldhaus during the verdict.
The German defendant had spoken of delusions and suicidal thoughts during the trial. However, the judges found him to be fully culpable. Due to the dramatic consequences of the crime, they saw no reason to reduce the life sentence. The verdict is not yet final.
