1st FC Union Berlin - Knee surgery: Volland misses first Union training session

Offensive player Kevin Volland missed the first team training session of 1. FC Union Berlin in the summer preparation due to an injury. "He had a little knee problem during the break, and at the end of the last season. He had to undergo a small surgery", said the new head coach Bo Svensson. "It's not that bad, but we have to build him up carefully."

Svensson did not give a prognosis if the season start is in danger for the 31-year-old. "My hope is definitely that he can join us during the preparation.", besides the EM-participants, outside defender Jerome Roussillon was missing, who trained individually. Goalkeeper Lennart Grill should join the team on Thursday.

Approximately 70 minutes were trained, among other things with passing exercises and a small playing form. Svensson was satisfied with his professionals. "The boys - and that's a good sign - have pushed the tempo themselves. I'll rarely be in their way. But, that such a move was there, was not planned", said the Dane. In the first week, one has to pay attention to the load. The first test game stands for the Cologne team on Saturday (15.30 pm) against the Regionalligist Chemie Leipzig.

Furthermore, Frederik Roew (Denmark), Andras Schafer (Hungary), Leopold Querfeld, goalkeeper trainer Michael Gspurning (both Austria), Tymoteusz Puchacz (Poland) and the recently signed Slovak Laszlo Benes (Hamburger SV) were still missing. They will return in the coming weeks step by step.

Bo Svensson expressed concern about Kevin Volland's absence due to a knee injury, which required a minor surgery during the break and at the end of the last season. Despite the injury, Svensson hopes that Volland, a Bundesliga player, can join the team during their summer preparation. 1st FC Union Berlin's new head coach, Bo Svensson, was pleased with the tempo set by his players during team training, despite not planning for such an initiative. Kevin Volland, an offensive player from Germany, trains with the 1st FC Union Berlin soccer team, based in Berlin.
