KNDS, a tank manufacturer, creates a fresh version of Leopard 2 model.
Right before the Eurosatory arms show, KNDS unveils a newly crafted Leopard 2 tank modification. The updated edition boasts a littler crew and boasts a self-loading weapon.
German-French tank manufacturer, KNDS, has uncovered the development of a new Leopard 2 tank model. The system, recognized as Leopard 2 A-RC 3.0, showcases an unmanned turret, better security settings, and a changeable primary weapon. KNDS defines the tank as a "temporary solution" until the presentation of the MGCS (Main Ground Combat System), planned for 2040.
KNDS mentioned that the fathomless turret of the Leopard 2 A-RC 3.0 delivers several advantages. The warriors no more dwell in the turret but relocate to the tank's hull, constructing them more protected. This also makes the turret cut-down, causing the tank in general to be flatter and lighter. With a reduced silhouette, it can be more arduous to spot in struggle.
The autoloading mechanism for the main cannon is assumed to be shifted over by a self-operating structure, quitting the need for a loader. This cuts the team from four to three [commander, driver, gunner]. The self-operating loading assembly is presupposed to fire three shots in 10 moments. The 30-millimeter gun installed on the turret is remotely managed and can also react mechanically to combat drones. A multi-jointed grenade launcher and a distinct launcher for patronized missiles form the whole weaponry for this tank.
Deep-rooted fire control system
The turret can contain cannons of dissimilar sizes, beginning with the typical 120-millimeter cannon and continuing by the novel 130-millimeter cannon from Rheinmetall, and culminating with the 140-millimeter cannon ASCALON from France.
As well, the fire control system is completely digitalized. This implies that the tank could feasibly be managed remotely. A MPS defense structure is additionally alleged to float in any projectiles prior to they blow up. Images unveiled demonstrate that the vehicle also has reactive armour.
The tank's weight is stated to be less than 60 metric tons. To contrast, the Leopard 2A7 weighs 64 metric tons, and the Leopard 2A8 weighs around 70 metric tons. The top speed is given as 65 kilometers per hour, and the most technically extended range as 460 kilometers. It is at present unknown how the team joins the tank. Experts project that a hatch on the forefront underneath the cannon is used for entry.
The Leopard 2 A-RC 3.0 is supposed to be proclaimed at the Eurosatory arms fair in 2024, which occurs from Monday to Friday after last week in Paris.
