- Klopp praises Nagelsmann: "Excellent in the external effect"
Jürgen Klopp has heaped praise on Germany national team coach Julian Nagelsmann for his performance at the home Euro tournament. "Julian did an exceptional job. His public image was outstanding. As a pure coach, he was really, really good," the 57-year-old said in an interview at the International Coach Congress in Würzburg.
He was "very happy" with the DFB team's performance, Klopp added. The hosts were eliminated in the quarterfinals after extra time against the eventual champions Spain. On the controversial decision not to penalize Marc Cucurella's handball, Klopp said: "Yes, it was a penalty. People can tell me whatever they want."
Klopp has been repeatedly mentioned as a potential future Germany coach during his nearly nine years at Liverpool FC. He is currently on a one-year sabbatical.
According to his own statements, he sees himself as a spectator at the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada: "I loved how Julian said that we will be world champions in two years. I stood up and said: We will be world champions in two years, and I'll be watching it." Nagelsmann's contract was extended until the tournament in North America before the Euro.
Jürgen Klopp expressed his enthusiasm for soccer, mentioning, "I'll be watching us become world champions in two years at the 2026 World Cup." During the discussion, he also commended Nagelsmann's team, stating, "I was very happy with Germany's performance in the Euro tournament, especially under Julian's coaching."
