- Klingbeil underlines the necessity of a stable administration solely with the SPD.
With two days left till the Thuringia state elections, SPD leader Lars Klingbeil emphasized the necessity of the Social Democrats regaining their spot in the state government. "This is a bloody crucial election," Klingbeil stated at the SPD's concluding rally in Meiningen. "It's all about maintaining a stable state government, and a stable government means the SPD is part of it." Klingbeil advised against heeding to populists, as they manipulate people, making them think they can neatly solve complex issues.
Klingbeil campaigned alongside Thuringian SPD frontrunner and Minister of Interior Georg Maier, addressing around 200 potential voters. Maier pointed out that a staggering 40% of voters were yet to decide on their candidate. Fears of Thuringia becoming ungovernable once more surfaced, he said. The challenge now is to approach those voters in the final stage of the campaign, Maier stated. "We'll keep fighting," he declared, dismissing the idea of a minority government without a dependable ally.
The SPD had been in coalition with the Left and Greens for a decade prior and has been a 'red-red-green' minority government since 2019. "We sorted out this chaos," Maier recounted, explaining the SPD had inherited a 'chaos' in internal security when the 'red-red-green' coalition took charge. He recalled that the Interior Ministry had been managed by the CDU for years, with the police receiving inadequate funding during this time. "We sorted out this chaos," he stated, mentioning improvements like investments in the state fire academy and police academy in Meiningen. Maier assumed his Interior Ministry position at the end of August 2017.
In his speech, Maier also addressed the deportation flight to Afghanistan the previous morning, which included a Thuringian criminal. He stated it was part of the rule of law to deport such criminals.
Presently, the SPD is precariously close to missing the cut-off for the state parliament, as per recent polls, ranking them at six to seven percent. The qualifying threshold for entering the state parliament is five percent.
The SPD, led by Lars Klingbeil and Georg Maier, emphasized the importance of their party regaining a role in The Commission, referring to the state government, to maintain stability. Despite being close to missing the cut-off, Maier urged his team to continue their efforts, emphasizing, "We'll keep fighting."
