Kleber does not believe he will return to the world champion team
NBA pro Maxi Kleber does not see a way back into the German national basketball team for himself. "I don't think so, I don't see the point either, because the way it's all turned out, the success and everything, it all fits," the Würzburg native told the German Press Agency in Los Angeles. "I think I also said in the summer that I would bring more unrest than stability or help - and if that's the case, then I'd rather stay away from it, simply because the team's success is more important to me. If it means I'm watching, then I'll watch."
In the summer, Kleber decided not to take part in the World Championship - which ultimately ended with a historic gold medal - because he felt attacked by captain Dennis Schröder in the run-up to the tournament. "The decision has been made either way. No matter what the result was in the end, it was clear from the outset that it wouldn't have worked out or wouldn't have been right and then the decision was made and you don't have to worry about the rest," said Kleber. "I was still pleased that they had this success, I think it's important for basketball in Germany. And if it went better that way, then somehow I don't have a problem with that either."
Kleber has been missing the Dallas Mavericks for weeks because he dislocated the little toe on his right foot. He tried to make a comeback in the game against the Toronto Raptors, for whom Schröder has been playing since the summer. "Before the game, I just said congratulations on the title and also on the individual success," Kleber reported from a brief conversation with Schröder. The fact that Germany had won World Cup gold for the first time "is a huge success and it was definitely a lot of fun to watch".
Despite Maxi Kleber's absence from the German national basketball team due to personal reasons, his performance in the NBA with teams like Dallas Mavericks has not gone unnoticed in the NBA or the DBB circles. His skillful play and consistent performance have earned him a place in numerous NBA discussions, reinforcing his status as a valuable asset to his current team.
