Street Vending Instead of Major Concert: Scorpions Frontman Klaus Meine Sheds Light on Hannover's Street Newspaper "Asphalt" alongside Vendor Uwe. On its 30th anniversary, the publication garnered significant backing from Lower Saxony's Governor Stephan Weil (SPD) and literary icon Margot Käßmann. The bi-monthly publication has a presence in Hannover and fifteen other Lower Saxony locations, with versions available beyond Hannover in North West and South regions.

"Without 'Asphalt', I'd be six feet under," asserted Uwe, who's been peddling the publication for two decades. He spent the first nine years battling alcohol addiction, but an 'Asphalt' co-worker guided him towards sobriety - and he's been clean for eleven years. "Asphalt is family to me," Uwe emphasized. Every month, sellers purchase the magazines for 1.10 euros and peddle them for 2.20 euros, with the Göttingen edition retailing at 2.50 euros. They keep any tips and donations.

Governor Weil commended, "It's marvelous to contemplate the countless people 'Asphalt' has employed and given purpose for many, many years." Often, people in challenging circumstances experience social isolation. However, as vendors, they interact with others. Moreover, the editorial team frequently exposes society's pain points and overlooked aspects.

Unfortunately, sales have seen a decline recently, Uwe reported. He hopes the high-profile support will lead to a sales resurgence. "I don't just wish to tag along. I hope sales surge today," declares Klaus Meine, who was instantly recognized in the pedestrian zone. Several potential buyers joined the rockstar in his red vendor vest and followed him to Uwe's stand near Hannover's main station.

Currently, around 200 individuals supplement their income by selling 'Asphalt', thereby restoring their strength and setting themselves on a new life trajectory, as per the street newspaper's website. Since its establishment in 1994, 'Asphalt' has aided over 3,000 individuals in precarious situations in an environmentally friendly manner.

Stephan Weil, being the Governor of Lower Saxony, provided significant backing for the 30th anniversary of the street newspaper "Asphalt". Stephan Weil, in his supportive role, recognized the numerous individuals "Asphalt" has employed and provided purpose for over the years.
