King Ferdinand I's remains move from Germany to Bulgaria.

In 1948, at age 87, Ferdinand I. passed away in Coburg. He was born on February 26, 1861, in Vienna as a Prince of Saxony-Coburg-Gotha. In 1908, he proclaimed Bulgaria as an autonomous kingdom. However, in 1918, he abdicated (stepped down) in favor of his son Boris and moved to Coburg. His son Simeon only held the throne as a kid. Simeon spent years in exile before returning to Bulgaria in 2000.

Ferdinand's casket was transported to Bulgaria, accompanied by a solemn procession, to the Wrana Palace near Sofia. There, it was greeted by Simeon of Saxony-Coburg-Gotha and other relatives of the old royal family. Military personnel then carried the flag-dressed casket into the palace's grand hall, where a funeral ceremony occurred. The interim government leader Dimitar Glavchev and President Rumen Radev were not in attendance.

After his death, Ferdinand's body rested in the crypt of the St. Augustine Church in Coburg. His desire was to be buried in Bulgaria, and on Thursday, his remains would be interred in the crypt of the Wrana Palace in Sofia.
