King Charles III recalls the dedication of veterans during the D-Day remembrance ceremony.

"It's amazing how lucky we are and the entire free world that the generation of people from Britain and other nations didn't back down during this challenge," expressed Charles III, addressing the former allied soldiers. He also talked about the dwindling number of veterans. "We have less and less chance to hear their stories directly. But we're always responsible for remembering what they did for us," he added.

Charles III placed a floral tribute for the fallen British soldiers. The French President Emmanuel Macron arrived after everyone else to the first of the three national tributes for the Allied landing in Normandy in 1944.

"We have a responsibility to remind future generations of the values for which they fought: freedom, democracy, and justice," stated Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. He attended the dedication ceremony for the killed Canadian soldiers in Courseulles-sur-Mer along with Prince William. After that, the US tribute would take place, with President Joe Biden and Macron in attendance.

The main memorial service takes place at about 3:30 p.m. on the landing site of the American soldiers at Omaha Beach. There, the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) are also expected. This year's commemorations, which last for three days, are happening while the Ukraine conflict is ongoing.
