German national soccer player Joshua Kimmich isn't relying solely on new coach Vincent Kompany for his future at FC Bayern Munich. "I recognize him as a player from a distance. I can't evaluate him as a coach that much. I'm thrilled we found a new coach. Of course, that matters too in my future. But what matters most to me is what the club thinks. It's cool that we have one fewer construction project," said the 29-year-old at the EM base of the German national team in Herzogenaurach on Saturday.

Kimmich was also inquired about if he might leave Bayern in the summer during the press conference. "It doesn't only depend on me," he responded enigmatically. "What does the club think? What do they want?" Those are critical questions for him. Generally, the circumstance is also "undecided" for him, as he indicated with reference to his one-year contract with the German record champion.

Bayern is his first priority.

His concentration is currently on the approaching European Championship. "There will indeed be a conversation afterward," Kimmich said, adding: "And Bayern will definitely be my initial point of connection." Kompany will surely ask Kimmich if he wants to play for him in midfield or as a right-back.

Kimmich has been with Bayern for nine years. Recently, he's been brought up as a possible transfer candidate more frequently. The Bayern wouldn't want to let Kimmich go - if at all - without a release clause in 2025. This would prevent a contract extension.

If there were no release clause, Kimmich would still be earning money. Barcelona was often mentioned as a potential Kimmich suitor. The Catalans recently hired Hansi Flick, who guided Kimmich to a triple in Munich in 2020.
