Football: Latest News and Updates - Kiel's Stöver makes a transfer to the demoted second division team Wiesbaden.

Uwe Stoever, the former sports director at Bundesliga team, Holstein Kiel, is moving on and joining the second-division relegator, Wehen Wiesbaden. Both clubs announced this news on Friday. Stoever, who's currently 57 years old, will end his contract a bit early and start his new role with the Hessians in June.

Stoever will be taking up the position of sports director at the club set to potentially play in the third division. He's going back to his old stomping grounds at Wehen Wiesbaden, where he previously held this position from November 2007 to March 2009. "I'm thrilled to be back at SVWW and am really looking forward to taking on this new challenge with great excitement," said Stoever.

Back in October, Stoever had announced he would be leaving the Kielers in the summer. Carsten Wehlmann took over Stoever's duties at the team that would likely make it to the Bundesliga after finishing as the runner-up in the previous season.

"I can't imagine a better ending to my time in Kiel. It's been a fantastic and very formative period for me that was both intense and challenging but, more importantly, gave me many unforgettable moments," said Stoever.

Since returning to Holstein Kiel in October 2019, Stoever had worked in different roles in the clubs FSV Mainz 05, 1. FC Kaiserslautern, FC St Pauli, and FSV Frankfurt.

Uwe Stöver's new role as sports director will see him return to the region of Hesse, specifically to SV Wehen Wiesbaden, which is located in the city of Wiesbaden. This will be a significant change for him, as he previously held a similar position at the club from November 2007 to March 2009.

Stoever's departure from Holstein Kiel means that Carsten Wehlmann will take over his duties at the Bundesliga team, which finished as the runner-up in the previous season and is expected to compete in the top division next season.

Germany's second division, where Wehen Wiesbaden currently finds itself, is a far cry from the Bundesliga, but Stoever has a wealth of experience at various clubs in different leagues, including FSV Mainz 05, 1. FC Kaiserslautern, FC St Pauli, and FSV Frankfurt.

The Third League, which is just below the second division, is where Wehen Wiesbaden could potentially end up if they don't manage to bounce back from their current position. Stoever acknowledges the challenge but is excited about the prospect of working in the league that is geographically close to his native Schleswig-Holstein, where Holstein Kiel is based.

Despite the pleasant circumstances surrounding his departure from Holstein Kiel, Stoever will still miss the community and the fan culture that he has become part of during his time with the club, especially the famous Keel harbor.
