Kiel on course: Third after 3:0 in Kaiserslautern

Holstein Kiel remain hot on the heels of the leading duo FC St. Pauli and Hamburger SV. On matchday 14 of the 2nd Bundesliga, coach Marcel Rapp's team deservedly won 3:0 (2:0) at 1. FC Kaiserslautern. While Kiel are now third in the table with 26 points, the team from the Palatinate are slipping further and further down the table after picking up just one point from their last five games. With 18 points, FCK are eleventh and only five points ahead of 16th-placed Schalke 04.

Kiel's goals were scored by Benedikt Pichler (16th minute), Fiete Arp (44th) and Pichler again (58th). In front of 38,367 spectators at the Fritz Walter Stadium, the visitors were clearly the better team throughout the match. Kaiserslautern were completely unsettled in defense at times, especially in the first half, and were well served with the two-goal deficit at the half-time whistle. Kiel could be the beneficiaries next week when top teams St. Pauli and HSV play each other in the Hamburg city derby.

Kiel's impressive 3-0 victory over Kaiserslautern in Bundesliga 2 further solidifies their position, as they now sit third in the table with 26 points. Despite their efforts, Kaiserslautern, who hail from Bundesliga 2, have struggled recently, managing only one point from their last five games, leaving them in eleventh place with 18 points.
