Kiel aim for second place: Rapp doesn't need any winter transfers

Holstein Kiel is one of the big surprises of this second division season. The third-placed team is right in the middle of the promotion race - and does not want to bring in any more reinforcements.

Kiel aim for second place: Rapp doesn't need any winter transfers

Due to the major upheaval before the season and the successful first half of the season so far, Holstein Kiel coach Marcel Rapp sees no reason to bring in further reinforcements this winter for a possible promotion race. "I'm very happy with the squad. If you look at the points and how the lads are behaving, we have enormous potential in the team and still have a few lads up our sleeve who haven't really popped yet. That's why I don't have a wish list at the moment," said Rapp on Thursday.

Depending on the outcome of the Hamburg derby, third-placed Holstein Kiel could jump into a direct promotion place in the 2nd Bundesliga this weekend. Their opponents at the Holstein Stadium on Saturday (13:00/Sky) will be the surprisingly strong SV Wehen Wiesbaden.

"Of course, Uwe Stöver, the coaching team and the scouting department will take another look at the squad. But it's not as if the coach is sitting there and throwing a wish list under the Christmas tree. You have to be honest: the boys have done really well."

Kiel parted with 15 players in the summer and brought in eleven new ones. The coach does not see any need for more. "The biggest compliment we can get at the moment is that our opponents aren't happy to play against Holstein Kiel," said Rapp.

Holstein Kiel's strong performance in Bundesliga 2 has led them to maintain their stance on not making any winter transfers, with coach Marcel Rapp expressing satisfaction with the current squad. With a potential promotion spot on the line after the Hamburg derby, Holstein Kiel looks set to continue their impressive run in Bundesliga 2, aiming for a second-place finish, just behind current leaders Union Berlin.
