Customs - Kick-off for mountain parades in Advent
Saxony's miners' associations will open their traditional Advent parade on Saturday (2 p.m.) with a large mining parade in Chemnitz. Around 1000 participants are expected in the city - people in uniform, musicians and singers.
Other towns and cities in Saxony also have traditional mining parades on the program this weekend, for example in Oelsnitz, Zwönitz and Aue. They attract many visitors every year. At the same time, the Miners' Christmas is celebrated in Leipzig's Gewandhaus on Sunday. The mining parades are part of the intangible cultural heritage, as is the "Steigerlied" (miners' song) that is regularly played during them.
