Keller criticizes after 1:1 and calls for unity
Despite great dissatisfaction with FC Köln's performance in the 1:1 (0:1) draw at VfL Bochum on Saturday evening, sporting director Christian Keller wants to remain calm. "I sense a very, very strong sense of unity within the team and we will get our points on that basis," said Keller in the ZDF "Sportstudio" on Saturday evening.
As Cologne have only drawn twice in a row against direct rivals - previously against Augsburg - they are still bottom of the table with six points from eleven games. Nevertheless, Keller is not worried about staying in the league: "We are clearly of the opinion that this squad has what it takes to finish in a non-relegation place and I assume that it will do so."
However, the sporting director was clearly critical of the team's performance in Bochum. "We were taken by surprise in both rounds," said Keller. "It was a very, very lucky point." The sporting director criticized "very inconsistent performances": "There is a lot that we have to work on today."
Despite the 1:1 draw in the Bundesliga, VfL Bochum and 1st FC Cologne, Keller acknowledged the team's unity, stating, "We will get our points based on this strong unity within the team." Despite drawing against direct rivals twice in a row, Keller is confident that Cologne's squad has the potential to avoid relegation.
