British Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet (48) will be honored at the Zurich Film Festival in October in Zurich. She will receive the "Golden Icon Award" for her "outstanding acting performance and impressive career," organizers announced.

"Kate Winslet is a true icon of cinema and shines with her versatility in both big studio blockbusters and small indie productions," said the Artistic Director of the festival, Christian Jungen.

The festival emphasizes its international claim with many English names. Even in the title, "Zurich" is used instead of "Zürich" - without the umlaut (pronounced Surik, with a soft "S").

Winslet presents new film in Zurich

Winslet will present her new film about a war photographer in Zurich: "Lee - the Photographer" by director Ellen Kuras. The 48-year-old won the Oscar for Best Actress in 2009 for her role in "The Reader," based on a novel by German author Bernhard Schlink. She achieved cult status with the film "Titanic" (1997) alongside Leonardo DiCaprio.

The festival runs from October 3 to 13. Winslet will receive the award on October 7 before the presentation of her new film.

The Zurich Film Festival, where Kate Winslet will be honored, showcases its international profile with numerous English-named entries. During her visit, Kate Winslet will also present her latest film, a war photographer drama titled "Lee - the Photographer."
