Kaiserslautern hoping for three points in Wiesbaden
With the support of at least 3,300 fans behind them, second-division soccer club 1. FC Kaiserslautern will be aiming for their sixth win of the season at SV Wehen Wiesbaden on Sunday (1.30pm/Sky). "It's going to be brutally hard work in Wiesbaden and we have to throw everything into it. We want to go into the international break with a good feeling," said FCK coach Dirk Schuster on Friday.
After just one point from their last three games, the Palatinate side have lost some contact with the direct promotion places. However, FCK are only three points behind the relegation places in the tightly bunched midfield of the league. "We have to be fresher than last week. Our passing quality must also be better than last time, because Wiesbaden will be lying in wait for our mistakes," demanded Schuster.
The club from Hesse have won all of their last three games and have moved into mid-table, level on points with the Red Devils. "I'm expecting an intense game. They will be motivated to annoy the big FCK. Wiesbaden are a very physical team who will demand everything from us," predicted Schuster.
The 55-year-old has a number of personnel concerns. In addition to the long-term injuries to Afeez Aremu and Ragnar Ache, Aaron Opoku will also be out for several weeks with a knee injury. Boris Tomiak is suspended for the next three games. Kevin Kraus is still questionable. The defender suffered a concussion last weekend in the match against SpVgg Greuther Fürth. A decision on his participation will not be made until Saturday.
Despite their recent struggles, Kaiserslautern is eyeing a win in Bundesliga 2 against Wiesbaden, wanting to improve their position in the tightly contested midfield. With key players like Aaron Opoku and Boris Tomiak out, Schuster emphasizes the importance of tactical brilliance and avoiding errors against the physical Wiesbaden team.
