Bundesliga - Kaenzig sole managing director after extension

Apart from squad planning, an important personnel decision has been made at VfL Bochum on the leadership level. The Bundesliga club announced that they have prematurely extended the contract of business manager Ilja Kaenzig until 2029. This decision sends a signal towards the future.

The 51-year-old joined the VfL in 2018 and will henceforth function as the sole business manager. The club has decided not to fill the position of sports business manager anew. Kaenzig will therefore bear the overall responsibility.

"Ilja Kaenzig, hardly anyone else represents the successful path of VfL in the past few years – sportingly as well as structurally. Under his leadership, the club has continuously developed on all levels and established itself in the Bundesliga. The fact that we are going into our fourth year of first division in a row is also largely his merit," said the supervisory board chairman Hans-Peter Villis.

"Ilja has also kept a cool head in the last not always easy times – that sets him apart besides his excellent network and foresight," Villis added.
