Turkish soccer star Ozan Kabak of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim has sustained a severe injury, tearing his cruciate ligament in his right knee. The Turkish Football Federation and Hoffenheim revealed the news on Wednesday. Ozan endured the injury during a friendly match against Italy in Bologna, which ended in a 0:0 draw. This setback will keep him out of action for several months and prevent him from participating in the EUROs held in Germany.

"This is a devastating blow and a sad turn of events for Ozan," commented Alexander Rosen, sports director at Hoffeinheim. "He had thrived throughout the previous season, earning a solid place in our team and a spot in the central defense for the Turkish national team. Unfortunately, his ambition to represent his homeland in his home country during the EUROs has been cut short."
