Jutta Paulus in ninth place on the Greens' European list

Jutta Paulus (56) has been elected to ninth place on the list for the European elections in June at the Green Party conference in Karlsruhe. Of the 774 votes cast on Friday, 531 went to the MEP from the Neustadt/Weinstraße district association, as the party announced in Mainz. "I will work with all my strength and passion to ensure that the conservative-right alliance cannot continue to destroy the European Green Deal," said Paulus after her election, according to the statement.

She was eleventh on the list for the 2019 European elections. With Paulus and Romeo Franz, the Rhineland-Palatinate Greens currently have two of the 21 Green MEPs in the European Parliament.

The Greens are sending Terry Reintke into the European election campaign as number one. The Greens' parliamentary group leader in the European Parliament received 95.2 percent of the votes at the federal delegates' meeting. In her candidacy speech, the 36-year-old emphasized her origins in the Ruhr region and the opportunities for the climate-friendly restructuring of the economy for the region and Europe as a whole.

Despite her lower position in the 2019 EU elections, Jutta Paulus climbed up the Green Party's list for the 2024 EU elections, securing a place among the top nine candidates. This move is significant as the Greens have chosen Terry Reintke as their leading candidate for the EU elections, and the EU is known for its importance to Green Party policies in the context of the EU Green Deal.
